2012 marks over 32 years that I have been the leading collector of rare Mormon objects.

SUTCLIFFE MAUDSLEY (1809-81). Emma Hale Smith
(1804-79) and Alexander Hale Smith (1838-1909), wife and
son of Joseph Smith Jr. (the Mormon prophet). A
10½-by-7½-inch watercolor and ink on paper, circa 1842-44,
Nauvoo, Illinois. Earliest known image of Emma Smith,
one of two by Maudsley, and one of only three painted
portraits of her (all made before the assassination of her
husband in 1844). Collection of John Hajicek,
Independence, Missouri. Image shown here, as digitally
restored and cropped, is copyrighted © 1999, 2001.
